2010 chrysler town and country review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Family-friendly minivan. introductionminivans offer roominess, convenience, versatility and fuel efficiency. There is no more sensible choice for a family with more than a couple of children. Chrysler was the first into this market and, long after other manufacturers have left it, chrysler remains, with the chrysler town & country and the dodge caravan. Of the two, the town & country is generally more upscale, and chrysler bills the town & country as the ultimate family friendly vehicle.  the 2010 chrysler town & country is offered with three v6 engines. The base engine, a 3. 3-liter v6 or 175 horsepower, doesn't offer much in the way of either power or fuel efficiency. The 3. 8-liter v6, with 197 horsepower, is adequate for around-town duty, but the best choice is the available 4. 0-liter v6 and its 251 horsepower. But it's a big vehicle, however, and is not nimble. There will be noticeable body lean in the turns and the ride can feel floaty at highway speeds. The honda odyssey and nissan quest are more car-like and sportier to drive.  on the other hand, the town & country's entertainment and seating options are the best in the class, matched only by the dodge grand caravan. The standard stow 'n go seating tucks the second-row seats nicely into the floor, and when those seats are up, the floor bins offer storage space. The rear seats fold into the floor on all models, allowing a perfectly flat, voluminous rear storage area. The swivel 'n go option is great for family trips; the second row turns to face the third row with a table in between, making it an activity center for the kids. There are also many entertainment choices.  for 2010 there are only minimal changes: the driver and front passenger seats have active head restraints, a rear obstacle detection display is in the vehicle information center, and the 4. 0-liter v6 has a revised final-drive ratio which improves fuel economy.  the town & country is a great vehicle for families that need to haul kids and cargo on a regular basis. Also offered are chrysler's uconnect multimedia suite 1,300) with a rearview camera, chrysler's uconnect phone hands-free cell phone link and chrysler's uconnect gps, which adds a navigation system with real-time traffic and voice activation to the uconnect tunes 30-gigabyte hard-drive radio. Three rear dvd entertainment systems are offered. The lx model is available with entertainment group 1 2,120), which has a single rear dvd screen, and also comes with sirius satellite radio, a rearview camera, and a 115-volt power outlet. Entertainment group 3 2,020) for the limited model has two rear video screens with two dvd players, plus sirius backseat tv. A trailer tow group 600) includes heavy-duty engine cooling, trailer wiring harness, and load-leveling rear air suspension. Stand-alone options include two integrated child seats 225) for the second row, a sunroof 995), a power-folding third-row seat 595), and sirius backseat tv 495). Several of the higher line standard features are also available for the lower line models as options.  the limited is available with a safety group that includes rear cross path and blind spot alert systems, along with uconnect phone, an ipod control, and auto-dimming mirror 825). The nissan quest, kia sedona, honda odyssey, and toyota sienna are all within a few inches, plus or minus, in overall length. The roof is wide at the top, also contributing to the boxy look.  the snout features a large grille with ties to other chrysler products. The body sides have a clean, simple design. The rear liftgate is available with power operation, which is handy, but the rear glass doesn't open separately, which isn't. Chrome accents on the front and rear fascias, door handles, belt molding, and mirrors lend an upscale appearance. interiorthe town & country's competitive advantage can be found on the inside. While ambiance and materials quality are not tops in the class, thoughtful features are.  hard plastic dominates the dash and doors. The only padded surfaces are found on the captain's chairs' fold-down armrests, and they are an unimpressive looking rubberized material. The gauges are easy to spot and the various controls are clearly marked.  the radio and/or uconnect tunes/gps system is set high on the center of the dash for easy access. With either system, the controls are easy to use, but those on the right side are a bit of a reach for the driver. The cd/dvd changer is also set low, making it a possible distraction to use while driving. The gearshift is mounted between the radio and the instrument panel. Both systems have a 30-gigabyte hard drive to hold music, pictures, and, with the navigation system, navigation map information. Both systems are capable of holding thousands of songs.  front-seat room and comfort are typical for a minivan. The front captain's chairs afford an upright driving position with an suv-like view of the road. There is plenty of head room, and leg room will only be lacking for the tallest drivers. A tilt steering wheel and available adjustable pedals should help most drivers tailor a comfortable seating position, but we'd still like the steering wheel to telescope.  the clever features start with the storage solutions. Chrysler provides two glove boxes and some cubbies in the center stack for small items storage. A total of 13 cupholders are found throughout the van, so the whole team has a place to put the root beers after the little league game. The premium center console is more impressive. This top level slides back to reveal a larger storage bin below it. The lower bin also slides back. With both layers pushed back, the top level moves back a total of 21 inches, which allows parents up front to prepare lunch for the kids and pass it back in a safe manner. The premium console is also removable.  the rear seating solutions are better yet. All town & country models have a deep well behind the third row, which is a great place to put groceries so they won't slide around. With the rear seats in place, there is an impressive 32. 3 cubic feet of cargo room. All models have a 60/40 split folding third-row bench seat. 2009 dodge grand caravan review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Family hauler gets more safety features. introductionthe dodge grand caravan is still fresh from a complete redesign for 2008, and for 2009 the grand caravan gets more safety features.  the grand caravan is all about transporting people comfortably and safely, while keeping them entertained. Its designers focused on interior creature comforts, and they succeeded. As part of that focus, dodge has made its stow 'n go seating standard. Stow 'n go has bins behind the first row that can be used to fold the second-row seats into the floor. It's more about comfort and safety than carlike precision. Electronic stability control is standard, and the grand caravan has performed well in government crash tests. The handling is a bit cumbersome, not surprising given the grand caravan's size. It doesn't go around corners as well as the honda odyssey and nissan quest do. It leans in hard turns, so drivers will have to be careful not to upset whatever activities are going on in back.  three v6 engines are available, including a 4. 0-liter 250-horsepower v6 added for 2008. We found the base 3. 3-liter engine can struggle with freeway on-ramps. The 3. 8-liter engine is acceptable, though we prefer the 4. 0-liter v6 introduced for 2008. The top engines from toyota, nissan and honda offer more power and response.  but a minivan isn't about speed and handling. The grand caravan's unique cargo and entertainment features give it a competitive advantage in the minivan class. Seating is two-two-three, with stow 'n go (second- and third-row seats fold flat, into the floor) standard. Options exclusive to the se start with quick order package 24g 1770) with tri-zone manual climate controls (including rear controls), tachometer, trip computer, outside-temperature indicator, compass, and alloy wheels. The tri-zone manual climate controls are offered separately in a climate group 995). The popular equipment group 1495) adds power-adjustable pedals, power-sliding rear doors, and a power rear liftgate. Uconnect tunes 725) comes with a 30-gigabyte hard-drive radio, six-disc cd changer, two additional speakers, and a usb connection. An entertainment group 1395) includes a rear dvd entertainment system with a single nine-inch screen and sirius satellite radio. A roof rack is also offered 250).  grand caravan sxt 27,825) uses a 197-hp 3. 8-liter overhead-valve v6 with a six-speed transaxle. Sxt equipment includes three-zone manual climate control with rear-seat controls, leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, eight-way power driver's seat with lumbar adjustment, power-adjustable pedals, power sliding rear doors, sirius satellite radio, trip computer, compass, outside-temperature indicator, universal garage door opener, illuminated visor mirrors, 115-volt power outlet, fog lights, roof rack, overhead storage, pinpoint led lighting, and alloy wheels. The 250-hp 4. 0-liter v6 630) is optional. Other sxt options include quick order package 28l 2365) with leather upholstery, heated first and second-row seats, power passenger seat, power rear liftgate, vehicle information center, additional interior lights, rechargeable/removable flashlight, bright bodyside moldings, sport suspension, and p225/65r17 tires. The premium group 1995) includes tri-zone automatic climate controls (including rear controls), third-row power-folding seat, nine-speaker 506-watt infinity audio system, uconnect phone wireless link, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and rain-sensing wipers. The security group 1425) adds rear-obstacle detection, dodge's new rear cross path and blind spot monitoring systems, uconnect phone, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and automatic headlights. The family value group 695) includes a removable center console, sunshades for second and third row, and remote engine starting. The sxt entertainment group 2 2200) comes with a rear dvd entertainment system with two nine-inch rear screens, a six-disc cd changer, usb connection, uconnect tunes, and a rearview camera. Uconnect tunes 675) is available as a standalone option. Uconnect gps 1300) includes uconnect tunes, plus a navigation system with voice activation and real-time traffic, rearview camera, six-disc cd changer, sirius satellite radio, uconnect phone, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. With rear dvd entertainment, customers can order sirius backseat tv 495). Front side airbags are not available. Optional safety features include a rearview camera, rear obstacle detection, and the new rear cross path and blind spot monitoring systems. A description of the overall shape of this newest generation of the dodge grand caravan wouldn't sound too much different from a description of the 1982 model. People don't buy minivans so others will look and say, 'that's the new minivan. Some styling!'  the dodge grand caravan is boxy, but it's attractive in an suv kind of way. The hood is less fairly flat, and it bears character lines. The grille is very upright, making the dodge crosshair grille look like that of a dodge truck, especially in chrome. The short wheelbase caravan was dropped with the 2008 redesign. All of them are now grand.  the grand caravan is the second largest minivan on the market, smaller than only the nissan quest. These comparisons are relatively unimportant, however, because the other minivans are within an inch or two of the grand caravan in both wheelbase and overall length. The grand caravan is a big vehicle, with a 202. 5-inch overall length and a 121. 2-inch wheelbase. interiorthe dodge grand caravan leads the minivan field when it comes to interior convenience, capability and versatility. Chrysler has been working to give its minivans a competitive advantage in these areas for a long time, and they haven't been afraid to be creative.  the interior materials are lackluster, however. Hollow hard plastic dominates the dash and door panels. Everything fits together well, but it doesn't make for a luxurious look and feel. We quite liked the look and feel. The black vinyl trim and satin aluminum-look plastic didn't look rich, but nor was it ugly. We like this feature.  we had six 10-year-old soccer players test the grand caravan's video player during a 90-minute drive to the game, and they liked it. The dvd was a snap to play, which is important because some of them, even those in much more expensive vehicles, are not easy to use. The screen drops down from the ceiling and the viewing begins. It comes with wireless headphones. It has jacks to plug in video game systems. It's available with sirius backseat tv, which comes with three kid-friendly channels: disney channel, cartoon network, and nickelodeon. When the dvd screen is deployed, the driver loses.

2008 pontiac grand prix review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Fun to drive and practical. introductiontrue to its long heritage, the pontiac grand prix is a big car promising performance-car excitement. The first two generations of grand prix were big cars, even by 1960s standards. The current-generation grand prix was launched as a 2004 model, and we think it's the best grand prix yet. The v6 develops 200 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 230 pound-feet of torque at 4000. The v6 gets an epa-rated city/highway 18/28 mpg, while meeting sulev (super low emissions vehicle) standards in california and the northeast.  the grand prix gxp boasts a 5. 3-liter v8 that makes 303 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 323 pound-feet of torque at 4400 rpm. The v8 gets an epa-rated 16/25 mpg. Abs 600) is optional and comes with electronic brake-force distribution (ebd) and advanced traction control; the security package adds side curtain airbags, and we recommend this.  options include a premium package 940) with leather upholstery, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, a fold-flat front passenger seat, and a cargo net. A more elaborate preferred package 965) includes power lumbar support, fold-flat front passenger seat, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, redundant audio controls on the steering wheel, driver information center, chrome interior accents, remote vehicle start, a cargo net, and a lighted vanity mirrors and reading lights. The special edition 1,995) adds 17-inch aluminum wheels, stainless exhaust tips, body-color grille and aero extensions all around; while a sport package 680) adds fog lamps, stainless exhaust tips, and polished aluminum wheels; and a custom accessories package 675) combines a unique rear spoiler, front grille inserts, and stainless steel exhaust tips. Polished alloy wheels 495), the fold-flat front passenger seat 75), and remote starter 190) are also available as stand-alones.  the performance-oriented gxp 29,325) boasts a 5. 3-liter transverse-mounted v8 that makes 303 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 323 pound-feet of torque at 4400 rpm. The gxp’s automatic transmission comes with tapshift (touch activated power), a feature that provides a pair of steering-wheel-safety features include dual-stage front airbags as standard equipment. Antilock brakes (abs), electronic brake-force distribution, electronic stability control, and curtain airbags are optional. Mounted paddles for manual shift capability. Gxp models also get bigger brakes, an antiskid system, leather and suede upholstery, dual-zone climate controls, heated front seats, nine-speaker monsoon sound system, a head-up instrument display, 255/45wr18 front and 225/50wr18 rear bridgestone potenza tires, and polished alloy wheels. Most of the equipment that’s optional on the base model is standard on the gxp. And the suspension is even sportier, with higher spring rates, gas-charged shocks, a nine-millimeter lower ride height, and a larger rear stabilizer bar.  both models are offered with a sunroof 895); or a sun and sound package that combines a power sunroof and a 6-cd changer on the gxp 1,195) plus the monsoon sound system on the base model 1,590). Xm satellite radio 200) and an engine block heater 75) are also available. A navigation system is offered on both models, but its price 1,845-2,540) varies depending on other equipment. Safety features include dual-stage front airbags as standard equipment. Antilock brakes (abs), electronic brake-force distribution, electronic stability control, and curtain airbags are optional. walkaroundthe grand prix is an attractive car. A commitment to style separates the grand prix from other mid-size transportation appliances. The rear end is as muscular as a speed skater's. Pronounced, enlarged taillights are mounted at the corners. A discreet spoiler finishes the deck lid.  pushing through the taillights and extended into the sheet metal are two horizontal bulges, like cladding segments escaped from the sides of an old grand am. The rear is important in appearance and certainly distinguishable from its road mates. Following a grand prix down the highway is a pleasant occupation.  up front, the slightly sculptured hood flows into pontiac's trademark twin nostril grille. The overall effect looks a bit like a tight smirk or knowing grin, enhanced by the grand prix’s slanted and attenuated headlights.  the coke-bottle sides are marked by two parallel strakes that slash through the doors about a hand's span below the door handles. Gratefully, there's no cladding, but those deep cut lines can be off-putting. One reason the grand prix looks best in black is because black hides these creases.  the aerodynamic door handles can be hard to grab and hold onto when in a hurry. interiorthe grand prix interior is has been upgraded since its introduction and it's a pleasant environment that is appropriate for the price. Materials pleasant to both the eye and fingertips enhance the experience, especially in the gxp, where the steering wheel and shifter are leather-wrapped.  the seats are supportive and comfortable. Front-seat headroom is not as good as in some of the other mid-size sedans, however. The leather-wrapped steering wheel fills the hand just right. The outside mirrors are remarkably large for a sedan. They offer excellent rearward vision yet add no noticeable wind noise. All of the controls are well-marked and within arm's reach. The glove box lid opens with the clatter of plastic.  rear-seat headroom is a bit tight, the downside to the coupe-like body design, and the rear seat-bottoms are flat and set low, making long-trip comfort an issue. The large center speedometer stands out from and overlaps the tachometer to the left and the circle containing the fuel and temperature gauges to the right. With a background in a shadowy grid pattern, these watch-like dials yield their information with simple, uncluttered, handsome functionality. No cluttering inner-ring of numbers.  the head-up display in the gxp is almost subliminal in its presence. Below an organized cluster of white icons on simple black buttons and dials keep the driver tuned in, warm or cool, etc. Pleasing to look at and nothing bewildering.  the cabin is comfortable and pleasant to look at, but what is really special is its functionality and flexibility. Not only do the back seats fold down in pairs or singly (with a 60/40 split) to effectively increase cargo capacity, the back of the front passenger seat folds forward, table-flat on gxp (optional on base). With all those seats folded, there’s 57 cubic feet of cargo space, comparable to some small wagons.  all this flat and nearly flat space can be accessed through the trunk, which benefits from a particularly low lift-over height. Thus it's easy to fold the appropriate seats and load long objects into the vehicle: a roll of carpet or a ladder or skis or italian market umbrellas. The trunk opening itself is low and wide.  with the rear seat up and five people on board, the trunk still holds 16 cubic feet of whatever those folks.

2008 mercury mariner review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. For 2008, the mariner simply does those things a little better than before. Like its corporate sibling, the ford escape, the mariner has been thoroughly updated for 2008.  improvements to the 2008 mercury mariner cover the spectrum, adding both safety features and refinement without altering the basic character that has made this small suv a popular choice across the united states.  mariner has a bit more truck-style flair than some of its competitors. The new look for 2008 replicates mercury's mid-size, truck-based mountaineer sport-utility. Mariner's ride height and seating position, for example, are higher than that of the honda cr-v or nissan rogue. Mariner can tow up to 3,500 pounds, which is substantially more than most vehicles in the class.  still, mariner delivers the advantages of other unit-body, car-based suvs such as the cr-v. The mariner is more car-like on the road than the jeep liberty, for example. Folding the rear seats opens a good-sized cargo area with a flat floor, and space behind the seat surpasses that in the trunk of the typical sedan. Interior storage options have improved for 2008. The finish is more upscale and pleasing, and feature function and switches are among the best. New standard safety features, including a roll stability control system, reset the class benchmark.  the engines are one of the few things carried over from the previous mariner. Along with the ford escape, it's the only full hybrid available in the class. Like other mariners, the gas-electric hybrid is offered with either front- or all-wheel drive. Unlike some mild hybrid suvs, the mariner hybrid can run on 100 percent electric power up to about 25 mph.  in line with a plan to rejuvenate the mercury brand, mariner is intended to offer a step up in status over the escape. Yet it's worth noting that the escape can be equipped identically to the mariner, and with the same stuff the prices are essentially the same. In either case, a leather-upholstered v6 4wd, with premium audio, navigation, dual-zone climate control and rear sonar sells for about $30,000. A 200-hp, dual-overhead cam 3. 0-liter v6 1,000) is optional. These base models come well equipped, with air conditioning, power windows, mirrors and locks, an am/fm stereo with cd and auxiliary jack, rear window defroster, cruise control, privacy glass and 16-inch alloy wheels.  the v6 comes standard in the mariner premium 23,820) and premium 4wd 25,570). This is the upscale trim level, with leather seating, a six-cd changer, automatic headlights and other features included.  mariner hybrid 27,020) and hybrid 4wd 28,870) are equipped similarly to the premium models, with the hybrid powertrain replacing the v6.  options include the cargo convenience group 195), which adds a retractable cargo area cover and a compartmentalized rear storage bin. The audiophile package 695) includes a high-power stereo with seven speakers, subwoofer and the in-dash cd changer. The leather trim package adds leather seating and adjustable lumbar support to the base model 995) or hybrid 695).  the audiophile and navigation package 2,295, base, $1,995 premium and hybrid) includes the stereo upgrade and a touch-screen navigation system. In the hybrid, it also adds a meter that graphically and immediately demonstrates the benefits of hybrid drive, and helps the driver maximize fuel economy. These are only the start of the packages, and there are also a host of stand-alone options for all trim levels, including cd changer 295), a power moonroof 795), floor mats 75), 17-inch wheels 650), and a class ii towing package 395).  safety features have been upgraded substantially for 2008, making equipment that was previously optional standard across the board, and raising the benchmark for small sport-utilities. Passive safety features include front- and side-impact airbags for front occupants, and curtain-type head protection airbags for all outboard seats. Rsc adds a second gyroscopic roll-rate sensor to the typical stability control package, measuring the mariner's roll angle and roll rate and applying countermeasures (such as braking one of the wheels or reducing power) to increase rollover resistance. walkaroundthe 2008 mercury mariner has been substantially restyled, but it may be what isn't obvious to the eye that matters more. The most important changes could be functional rather than aesthetic.  the outside mirrors, for example, are larger than before, offering a broader view to the sides and rear. Yet mercury engineers tailored the shape so the bigger mirrors generate less noise as air speeds over them. The roof, too, is designed to reduce interior noise. Recessed channels running its length are intended to move air more quietly over the surface. Horizontal ribs underneath the panel add structure, which limits flex in the metal and reduces booming noise inside at high speeds. In all, it's part of the overall refinement that makes the redesigned mariner a more pleasant place to spend time.  we're not trying to minimize the changes to mariner's styling, because they're significant. The front end, liftgate, headlights and taillights are different. The beltline, or that crease just below the side windows, has been raised, and none of the major body panels are common to previous mariners. It's just that the redesign is evolutionary, with the most obvious changes in the details. In a general, impressionistic way, the new mariner still looks a lot like a shrunken version of the larger mercury mountaineer suv. And while it may have a sedan-style unitbody with fully independent suspension underneath, the mariner has a more conventional, upright, truck-style look than a lot of its competitors.  it starts with the big, bold, waterfall grille, which immediately attracts the eye from any angle on the front of the vehicle. The new grille is larger than before, with wider openings between the bars. The badge in the middle is larger, too, and there are smaller mercury badges integrated inside the headlight lenses. There's more brightwork on this mariner front and rear, but it's mostly a satiny, aluminum finish rather than conventional chrome. It gives mariner a more understated, slightly more upscale look than the closely related ford escape.  that higher beltline creates the impression that the windows are shorter or narrower, promoting a pillbox effect that emphasizes mariner's truck look. The taillights have the same eyebrow shape as the headlights, which helps connect front and rear. The lenses are clear, with read and white clusters underneath.  we particularly like a couple of features in back of the mariner. A step pad on the bumper provides secure footing for anyone who steps up to put something on the roof rack, and the two-piece tailgate is handy. The rear glass can be popped open with the key fob, so dropping smaller items like a gym bag into the cargo area is easier than it might be with some competitors, which require hefting the entire gate upward. interiorthe 2008 mercury mariner features a redesigned cabin, and it contributes considerably to its overall refinement, increasing its appeal. This interior isn't a great leap forward in any particular fashion, but it's carefully thought out and well executed. Ergonomic function is best in class, and the visual impact is good.  the brushed, satiny aluminum trim that abounds outside the mariner carries over inside, and anyone who likes the effect should find the mariner a pleasant place to spend time. The look and feel of materials are improved throughout. The most impressive feature may be the woven-look, rubberized trim on the dash and console. It looks sporty and suited to a mor. 2010 dodge grand caravan review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Family hauler. introductionthe dodge grand caravan is all about transporting people comfortably, efficiently and safely, while keeping them entertained. Its designers focused on interior creature comforts, such as the popular stow 'n go seating system. Stow 'n go consists of bins in the floor behind the first row of seats, and folding second-row seats that can be folded into those bins, resulting in a flat load floor for easily carrying larger objects. Or, when the seats are up in the normal seating position, the bins can accommodate toys, games, sporting gear, tools or whatever.  another popular feature is swivel 'n go seating, with second-row chairs that swivel to the rear and a table that fits between those seats and the third-row bench, thus allowing up to five people to face each other around the table. It's great for keeping the kids entertained on a trip, for getting in a little work, or having an on-road conference. Other available features include a video system with one or two rear screens, wireless headphones, and remote control; a spot to plug in a laptop; power sliding side doors and power liftgate; and the capability to download music to a hard-drive sound system. Or, if need be, all the seats can be folded flat and the grand caravan can accept a sheet of plywood or some bales of hay.  the grand caravan's suspension delivers a nice, smooth ride, though it can sometimes wallow. It's more about comfort and safety than carlike precision. Electronic stability control is standard, and the grand caravan has performed well in government crash tests. The handling is a bit cumbersome, not surprising, given the grand caravan's size. It doesn't go around corners as well as the honda odyssey and nissan quest. It leans in hard turns, so drivers will have to be careful not to upset whatever activities are going on in back.  three v6 engines are available. Next is a 3. 8-liter v6 of 197 horsepower. The 3. 8 and 4. 0-liter engines have a six-speed automatic. We found the base 3. 3-liter engine can struggle with freeway on-ramps. The 3. 8-liter engine is acceptable, though we think the 4. 0-liter v6 is the best choice.  the few changes for 2010 include front-seat active head restraints, three-zone climate controls are now standard on the se trim level, a rear-obstacle detection display is available, and the 4. 0-liter engine is fitted with a revised final-drive ratio, which improves fuel economy.  the grand caravan's unique cargo and entertainment features make it a strong contender in the minivan class. Families will like it, especially because those entertainment features will make for more enjoyable family trips. Seating is two-two-three, with stow 'n go (second- and third-row seats fold flat, into the floor) standard. Options exclusive to the se include package 24g 1,070) with power front windows and third-row vents, tachometer, trip computer, outside-temperature indicator, compass, and alloy wheels. The popular equipment group 1,495) adds power-adjustable pedals, power-sliding rear doors, and a power rear liftgate. An entertainment group 2,120) includes a 30-gigabyte hard-drive radio, six-disc cd changer, 6. 5-inch touch-screen display, a rear dvd entertainment system with a single nine-inch screen, six speakers, a 115-volt power outlet, rear park assist, and sirius satellite radio. A roof rack is also offered 250).  the grand caravan sxt 26,730) has the 197-hp 3. 8-liter overhead-valve v6 with a six-speed transaxle. Sxt equipment includes leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, eight-way power driver's seat with lumbar adjustment, power-adjustable pedals, power sliding rear doors, sirius satellite radio, trip computer, compass, outside-temperature indicator, universal garage door opener, illuminated visor mirrors, 115-volt power outlet, fog lights, roof rack, overhead storage, pinpoint led lighting, and alloy wheels. The 251-hp 4. 0-liter v6 630) is optional. Other sxt options include package 28l 2,760) with leather upholstery, heated first and second-row seats, power passenger seat, power rear liftgate, vehicle information center, additional interior lights, rechargeable/removable flashlight, bright bodyside moldings, sport suspension, and p225/65r17 tires. The premium group 1,995) includes tri-zone automatic climate controls (including rear controls), third-row power-folding seat, nine-speaker 506-watt infinity audio system, uconnect phone wireless link, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and rain-sensing wipers. The security group 1,425) adds rear-obstacle detection, dodge's rear cross path and blind spot monitoring systems, uconnect phone, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and automatic headlights. The family value group 695) includes a removable center console, sunshades for second and third row, and remote engine starting. The sxt entertainment group 2 2,220) comes with a rear dvd entertainment system with two nine-inch rear screens, a six-disc cd changer, usb connection, uconnect tunes, and a rearview camera. Uconnect tunes 675) is available as a stand-alone option. Uconnect gps 1,300) includes uconnect tunes, plus a navigation system with voice activation and real-time traffic, rearview camera, six-disc cd changer, sirius satellite radio, uconnect phone, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. With rear dvd entertainment, customers can order sirius backseat tv 495). Front side airbags are not available. Optional safety features include a rearview camera, rear obstacle detection, and the rear cross path and blind spot monitoring systems. walkarounda minivan shape does not lend itself to artistic sculpture. A description of the overall shape of this current generation of the dodge grand caravan wouldn't sound too much different from a description of the 1982 model. There is a big box behind, where all the people and cargo fit, and a smaller box in front, for the engine. That very efficient outline defines every minivan on the road.  the dodge grand caravan is boxy, but it's attractive in an suv kind of way. The hood is less fairly flat, and it bears character lines. The grille is very upright, making the dodge crosshair grille look like that of a dodge truck, especially in chrome. Sixteen-inch wheels are standard. The grand caravan is a big vehicle, with a 202. 5-inch overall length and a 121. 2-inch wheelbase. interiorthe dodge grand caravan leads the minivan field when it comes to interior convenience, capability and versatility. Chrysler has been working to give its minivans a competitive advantage in these areas for a long time, and those efforts show.  the interior materials are lackluster, however. Hard plastic dominates the dash and door panels. Everything fits together well, but it doesn't make for a luxurious look and feel. We quite liked the look and feel. The black vinyl trim and satin aluminum-look plastic didn't look rich, but nor was it ugly. Among them is the convex conversation mirror, which is handy for talking to those in the rear seats without having to turn around. We like this feature.  we had six 10-year-old soccer players test the grand caravan's video player during a 90-minute drive to the game, and they liked it. The dvd was a snap to play, which is important because some of them, even those in much more expensive veh.

2006 chevrolet equinox review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. It's bigger than each of them (including the all-new 2006 rav4). Equinox is big enough that its dimensions blur the line between compact and midsize sport utilities. It's nearly 14 inches longer than the ford escape and just three inches shorter than a chevy trailblazer.  as a result, the equinox is roomier than other compact suvs, and has features that enhance its versatility. The back seats are mounted on tracks and slide fore and aft. Slide the seats rearward for more rear legroom. The rear seatbacks also recline for additional comfort. However, equinox only seats five because it does not offer a hopelessly cramped third row as the new rav4 does.  it long wheelbase gives the equinox good stability and ride quality. Like the cr-v, rav4, and escape, equinox is based on a passenger car design.  equinox was launched as a 2005 model so there aren't any major changes for 2006. However, the 2006 models do come standard with anti-lock brakes, cruise control, and other features, which wasn't the case last year. Also, interior changes have been made for 2006 to improve the appearance and function of the cabin. Both are available with front-wheel drive (fwd) or all-wheel drive (awd). Equinox comes standard with a 3. 4-liter v6 and five-speed automatic transmission. The 2006 equinox ls packs more standard equipment than last year, and the lt level has been split into two sub-levels called lt1 and lt2.  equinox ls fwd 21,755) and awd 23,505) come with air conditioning; cruise control; cloth upholstery; a fold-flat front passenger seat; a multi-flex 60/40 split rear bench seat that folds, slides, and reclines; six-speaker am/fm/cd audio; and power windows, mirrors, and locks with remote keyless entry. Bumpers are body-color for 2006. Ls fwd comes standard with traction control.  lt1 fwd 23,050) and awd 24,675) add fog lights, carpeted floor mats, deep tinted glass, and 16-inch aluminum wheels. Mirrors, door handles, and roof-rack side rails are body-color rather than charcoal or black. Sound system options expand considerably at the lt1 level, and include a six-speaker am/fm/cd/mp3 unit with rds 135); a similar unit incorporating a six-cd changer 395); and digital audio with xm satellite radio 325). Also available: a tilt-and-slide sunroof 595) and luggage rack cross-bars 95).  lt2 fwd 24,180) and awd 25,805) add an auto-dimming inside rearview mirror with an eight-point compass and outside temperature display, leather-wrapped steering wheel with redundant audio controls, and 17-inch aluminum wheels. Side-impact and head-curtain airbags are optional 395) offering torso protection and head protection in the event of a side impact or rollover. But its side-view shape is quite a bit different from the rest of the family, and we like it.  the roof pillars and the sheetmetal above the windows but below the roof seem to be extra-thick, imparting a feeling of extra solidity and strength, important for a truck made on a car platform. It's a sound that no other chevrolet truck makes.  the equinox look solidly planted on its wheels. Its bigger size is evident everywhere. Up front, equinox carries flexible net storage pockets on both sides of the center tunnel. The center console/armrest has a small storage cubby and a coin holder for toll money. Dual cupholders pop out of the end of it, but they're flimsy and get in the way of the handbrake. The armrest flips up, providing better access to an open floor console that's a perfect place for a purse, briefcase or tote bag. Improvements for '06 include new knobs for climate control (and a claim of improved performance), and better integration of the passenger-side airbag cover. Down on the console, the t-handle shifter on the '05 models has given way to a more conventional shift lever for '06. Seat heaters are now available with cloth as well as leather seats, and the seat-heating controls of been re-located to the instrument panel.  the rear seat rides on a track that allows it to slide back and forth by up to eight inches, to bring kids or briefcases closer to the front, or to provide extra legroom for tall second-row passengers. Gm calls this innovative feature the multi-flex rear seat. Rear passengers also enjoy a 12-volt power outlet and dual slide-out cupholders. Rear head restraints have been down-sized slightly for '06, improving rearward visibility for the driver.  gm's designers have used the space above the wheel wells to a handy cargo storage system. A lightweight reversible panel slides into slots on the equinox's wheel wells at three different heights. Carpeted on one side and plastic on the other, the panel can serve as shelf, cargo cover or even a picnic or tailgating table. The tops of the wheel wells contain storage bins for small items. And there are several tie-downs and hooks on the panel from which to hang grocery bags. However, this system is being eliminated during the 2006 model year to increase cargo capacity.  xm satellite radio is a great feature when traveling cross country because the stations don't change. Simply press the blue button and a human operator responds, to provide directions and other assistance. It delivers good acceleration and it's smooth enough. Epa fuel economy estimates are 19/24 mpg city/highway for front-drive models and 18/23 for the awd version. The 3. 4-liter v6 is an old overhead-valve design that lacks modern features such as variable valve timing and variable-length intake runners. So it feels strained when pushed at high rpm. It delivers 185 horsepower and 210 pound-feet of torque.  the v6 engine is aided considerably by the five-speed automatic transmission. Chevrolet says the equinox can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 8. 5 seconds, which should be adequate performance for most families. And while it may not excel at acceleration, equinox is rated to pull a 3500-pound trailer.  its long wheelbase and 3600-pound heft give the equinox a decent ride, making it a suitable companion for long trips. Its handling is responsive and it's easy to modulate the brakes for smooth stops.  the equinox has good road feel in highway driving, yet the driver may notice that steering effort is very low at low speeds for easier maneuvering in tight parking lots. The steering ratio is variable, and the equinox uses electric, rather than hydraulic, power steering. An electronic control unit programmed for a variety of performance characteristics regulates an electric motor mounted adjacent to the steering column, providing the right amount of assist for a given driving situation. We don't think the average driver will feel the difference between this system and more conventional hydraulics, and that's a good thing. Unlike a hydraulic servo, the.

2007 hyundai santa fe review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new crossover suv suited for the suburbs. introductionhyundai is on a roll. Its vehicles are proving to have the reliability and quality people expect from japanese cars. The hyundai santa fe is all-new for 2007 and early indications are that it could be a true alternative to the toyota highlander.  the santa fe is a so-called crossover suv, meaning it's built like a car, using unibody construction instead of the body-on-frame construction of a traditional truck. It's a practical vehicle for everyday use.  completely redesigned, the new 2007 hyundai santa fe is attractive. It blends into the suburbs nicely, shedding the quirky looks of last year's model. The new santa fe is smooth and quiet and handles well on winding, paved roads. Yet it retains hyundai's value quotient. lineupthe 2007 hyundai santa fe comes in three trim levels: gls, se, and limited. All-wheel-drive is offered as an option 2,000) on all models. Active safety features include antilock brakes, electronic stability control, traction control, and a tire-pressure monitoring system.  the gls 20,945) is powered by a 185-hp 2. 7-liter v6 engine. It comes standard with cloth upholstery, a five-speed manual gearbox. The gls is well equipped with air conditioning, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, 112-watt am/fm/cd/mp3 audio system with six speakers, rocker panel moldings, heated power side mirrors, power windows, power door locks, remote keyless entry, 16-inch alloy wheels, and a roof rack with rails.  the se 23,645) has a more powerful, 242-hp 3. 3-liter v6 with a five-speed automatic transmission with shiftronic and 18-inch alloy wheels. In addition to the equipment found on the gls, the se adds electrochromic auto-dimming rearview mirror with compass, front fog lights and steering wheel audio controls. An optional premium package 1,600) adds a power driver seat with power lumbar support, a power tilt/slide glass sunroof, heated front seats and homelink. The ultimate package 3,850) includes the premium package features, plus a rear-seat entertainment system with an eight-inch lcd monitor, 252-watt am/fm/cd-changer/mp3 audio system with seven speakers (including subwoofer) and external amplifier, and a 115-volt power outlet in the rear cargo area.  the limited 25,945) adds leather seating surfaces, heated front seats, power driver seat with power lumbar support, dual zone automatic temperature control with outside temperature display and homelink. A chrome grille and exterior door handles, as well as a body color hatch spoiler, distinguish the limited. The ultimate package 3,550) includes a sunroof, rear-seat entertainment system with an eight-inch lcd monitor, a 605-watt infinity logic 7 surround sound am/fm/cd-changer/mp3 audio system with 10 speakers (including subwoofer) and external amplifier, 115-volt power outlet and power front passenger seat.  xm satellite radio and a navigation system will be available on later models.  the santa fe includes hyundai's bumper-to-bumper warranty of five years/60,000 miles and a powertrain warranty of 10 years/100,000 miles. walkaroundcompared to the previous-generation model (2006 and earlier), which was polarizing with its curvy lines, the new hyundai santa fe blends in with other suvs in its segment.  hyundai says the new santa fe evokes the assertive grace of a speed skater with a relatively long wheelbase and short overhangs. Some would say it looks like a smaller version of the volkswagen touareg, which is not a bad comparison.  the most noticeable attribute of the santa fe's front is the complete absence of a bumper. Instead the front valence curves around from beneath the body to encompass the large grille and wrap around headlights. The hood slopes up toward the raked windshield and the wedge shape continues along the lower edges of the side windows that sweep up dramatically toward the tailgate.  even the rear has distinctively curved lines with high mounted taillight clusters that are partially mounted on the main body and the tailgate. The easy to see and easy to grab tailgate handle is definitely a santa fe design cue.  although the new santa fe is slightly larger than the previous model, it looks smaller because its styling is more refined and it looks less like a truck. interiorpleasing is the best way to describe the interior of the hyundai santa fe as it features modern plastics with a soft touch feel. All models include blue accent lighting at night to illuminate the instruments, switches and the edges of the front cupholders. Even the base gls has nice luxury touches that include realistic looking, but fake wood-trim accents across the width of the dashboard, surrounding the shifter and along the door panels.  the gauges are mounted in a large instrument pod in front of the steering wheel. The radio and climate controls are well located in a center stack that is mounted high in the dashboard for easy reach and observation while driving.  according to hyundai's measurements, the headroom and legroom is greater in all rows than in competing models thanks to a uniquely designed unibody that is not based off an existing car platform, thus allowing the engineers to maximize interior space without compromise.  with the optional third row of seats folded down there is a generous 34. 2 cubic feet of storage space on an almost flat floor. Fold down the middle row of seats and there is 79. 3 cubic feet of storage space. Although the santa fe is one of smallest midsize suvs in exterior dimensions it is far from being the smallest inside, a tribute to its space-efficient design.  the air vents for the center row of seats are mounted in the b-pillar, which is much more effective than being mounted down low behind the center console, as in many vehicles.  we did not get to try a model with the third row of seats. Additionally, one loses the very practical hidden storage space under the rear floor when the vehicle is fitted with the optional third row of seats. driving impressionnobody can really expect an suv, even one built using a stiff unibody, to handle as well as a sedan. However the new hyundai santa fe comes mighty close. The steering has a pleasant feel, neither too tight nor too loose, the brakes work well if not dramatically, the ride is smooth and the vehicle is quiet.  the gls comes with the smaller of two available v6 engines and is available with a manual transmission, which is a unique combination in the u. We haven't had a chance to check it out and hyundai admits few people will buy one, but a manual transmission is available for drivers who want one.  we briefly drove a santa fe with all-wheel drive and on dry pavement it did not feel any different from the front-drive model. All-wheel drive is designed to improve handling stability and traction on slippery surfaces.  all santa fe models include electronic stability control with traction control.  the best value may be the front-drive se model, which has the same high-tech aluminum engine and transmission as the limited. summarythe hyundai santa fe is the same size as the toyota highlander, but it costs less. Judging from hyundai's performance in j. Power and associates quality studies, hyundai's vehicles are right in there in terms of quality and reliability as well. The santa fe is a so-called crossover suv, meaning it's built like a car, using unibody construction instead of the body-on-frame construction of a traditional truck. It's a practical vehicle for everyday use. It comes in three trim levels: gls, se, and limited. All-wheel-drive is offered as an option on all models. Safety features that come standard on all models include dual front airbags, front seat side-impact airbags, side curtain airbags and active front head restraints. Active safety features include antilock brakes, electronic stability control, traction control, and a tire-pressure monitoring system. For 2007, the hyundai santa.
